Happily RoofBeamReader has announced the TBR Pile Challenge for another year! The aim is to read 12 books that have been gathering dust over the next 12 months.
My list in no particular order:
- Gulliver’s Travels by Jonathan Swift
- Heat Wave by Penelope Lively
- The Lady and the Little Fox Fur by Violette Leduc
- The Beautiful summer by Cesare Pavese
- Death in Spring by Merce Rodoreda
- The Green Road by Anne Enright
- Heartburn by Nora Ephron
- The Cherry Tree by Adrian Bell
- Silver Ley by Adrian Bell
- Young Anne by Dorothy Whipple
- Birdsong by Sebastian Faulks
- Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen
And two alternates, just in case:
- The Aftermath by Rhidian Brook
- Gaudy Night by Dorothy L. Sayers
All of these look like great reading to me. Gulliver’s Travels is a book I’ve always meant to read, but keep putting off and I really don’t understand why it’s taken me so long to get around to Birdsong!
Just Reading A Book 
I loved Gulliver’s Travels! I read it back as an undergrad for a Humanities class. Of course I also love Northanger Abbey! I’ve never read any Dorothy Sayers but will because I’ve fallen in love with cozy mysteries. Good luck on the challenge!

I’ve just finished Birdsong and so will be watching out for your review to see what you think of it – pressure is now truly on to read this! You have a several authors on your list who I haven’t heard of, so am looking forward to the next year of reviews 😀

I haven’t read many of these, but Northanger Abbey is delicious, and I thoroughly enjoyed The Aftermath when I read it a few years ago. I’m one of the minority who wasn’t blown away by Birdsong, although even I loved parts of it. Hope you love them all!

Thank you. I have never heard anything about The Aftermath, I bought it in a charity shop because I liked the cover so I’m glad it comes with a recommendation!

Northanger Abbey is on my classics TBR I think! Did you have any method of how you picked these off your TBR?

Yes, Northanger Abbey is on my classics list too – no real method, but I would like to try and read more in translation next year so anything next to my bed not originally in English took priority!

Quite a few of these I haven’t even heard of, but I have really enjoyed Northanger Abbey in the past. It’s not my favorite Austen, but definitely an enjoyable read. I should really read Guillver’s Travels one of these days, too… Good luck and enjoy!

Northanger Abbey is sweet – I really liked it. It’s not as mature as a lot of her other work, but it matches well with the main character, and doesn’t get too wordy (like Sense and Sensibility can). I hope you enjoy it.
